Dear Friend,
Vesnova Children's Mental Asylum was filled with smiles and laughter in February as 18 Roses and Escorts from the International Rose of Tralee Festival visited Belarus, where they spent their time volunteering in Vesnova, which is home to 170 children. As well as feeding, washing and assisting with other care duties in the orphanage, the Roses and Escorts danced, played and sang with the delighted children. The group of Roses and Escorts, who travelled from Ireland, Great Britain and the United States, brought compassion and love as well as huge amounts of laughter and fun to the children in Vesnova.
I was delighted to accompany the group on the trip and share in their experience. I am constantly inspired by the generosity and kindness of the international volunteers who reach out and touch the hearts of the forgotten children in the Chernobyl regions. The cherished time that the group spent with the children will have touched their hearts and lives forever.

CCI's Medical Care Programme in Vesnova continues to go from strength to strength. In over 12 years the Medical Care Programme has transformed the care of the children. Monthly nursing and medical teams visit Vesnova to work and oversee training programmes for local nurses. Monthly medical teams help to also deliver care plans for each child. CCI continues to provide essential medical and special needs equipment to support the Medical Care Programme. Children in Vesnova had inadequate seating and through the purchase of specially moulded wheelchairs, these children can sit in an upright position for the first time.
