Fishermen in Costa Rica have discovered a loophole that makes the brutal act of shark finning legal again.

Costa Rica: Close the Shark Finning Loophole!

Dear Friends, 

Shark finning is a cruel act that involves slicing the fins off live sharks and then tossing the animal back into the water to slowly bleed to death. It's not just abusive, though -- it's slowly wiping out shark populations all over the world. And now, fishermen in Costa Rica have honed in on a loophole in the shark finning ban that has allowed them to resume this horrifying practice.

To avoid getting caught, fishermen have started to keep the fins attached to the shark’s spine or body rather than toss the bodies back into the water. But this is still resulting in the deaths of hundreds of sharks. It's no more moral than tossing the shark's body back into the ocean, and it shouldn't be legal. 

Sharks are a vital part of the ocean ecosystem, and it's horrifying that they might go extinct because some are calling their fins a "delicacy." We have to come together to protect them while we still can. Tell Costa Rica to close the shark-finning loophole immediately.
